Ed and Dorothy have been long time Charolais breeders. They run the operation under the name ED-C-DOR-Farms. Ed decided this fall was time to take it easier so they dispersed the herd (except for 4 old faithful cows) and planned a holiday to their place in Osoyoos.

Ed and Dorothy reside on sec 22 12 22 which Ed is farming and grew up on. Ed did not have far to go to school from the farms as Lothair School was not far to the north and Bradwardine school was not far to the west. Ed didn’t tell me why he had 2 goes at each school. Dorothy was born in Brandon May 9 (yr. a ladies privilege) and raised in Oak River. Dorothy went on to study hairdressing after high school. Ed married Dorothy who had 3 children Chris, Cam and Carla on the far, July 2, 1977. The kids all did their part in helping with the cattle while lived at home.

Ed really enjoys all kinds of sports as a player and spectator. Ed still loves to curl and golf. He also can be seen at the local ball diamond in the summer and watching hockey in the winter.

Ed began building his herd in 1964 with the purchase of two Charolais bulls to try which created enough interest to have him buy females to start the herd in 1970. Ed’s love of his cattle has kept him involved though performance testing of his bulls and herd exposure at shows. Ed has sent his bulls to Douglas, Roblin and Gunton Test Stations over the years. Ed was always trying to come up with ways to promote his cattle so he attended some shows at Brandon (Ag-Ex), Regina Agribition, Toronto Royal and some of the local fairs. Besides bull testing Ed keeps his performance data on the herd through On Farm Charm and before that ROP. Ed has got involved in different groups over the years. He is currently president of the local Ag Society as well as having say on Douglas board, Rivers Curling Club and MCA board. Ed was always involved in fund raisers for the Charolais when times were not that good by helping run raffles or by his infamous pit barbecues (he has a few stories to tell). Ed is a very good supporter of junior or 4-H functions. He is always buying tickets or doing what it takes to help out. The last time the CCYA was held in Manitoba Ed was lucky enough to win the heifer the juniors were raffling. Ed was also involved in the 1st Ball Room Sale held in the Winnipeg Inn which was quite an undertaking trying to get all the panels and stage up from the basement to the Ball Room. After every thing was set up the cattle were brought up the elevator through the kitchen and sold.

Dorothy was an active member of the Charolettes using her selling skills to help fundraise with ideas like guessing who’s coming to dinner which some of you may remember. We believe with all Ed’s promoting and support of Charolais cattle he would be a deserving recipient to be on the honor roll.

Stan and Carol have been long time Charolais breeders. They ran their operation under the name of White Pearl Charolais, which is now carried on by Garth, Darlene and Justin Jackson.

Stan was born and raised on the home farm (Century Farm) at Inglis on April 14, 1930. Carol Pentilichuk was born at Shell Valley on July 25th (they ear is a lady’s privilege) and was raised in the Inglis district. She and Stan were married on September 6, 1952 and raised four children – Wendy, Grant, Linda and Garth. They farmed the land until their semi retirement to Russell in 1988.

Stan purchased his first Charolais bull in 1972 for his commercial herd and began building a purebred herd in 1977. The base of the herd came with the purchase of the George Krahn herd in 1978. The herd was enrolled in the Federal Provincial R.O.P. programs and, with the inception of the C.H.A.R.M. program in 1986, enrolled in the at program also.

White Pearl also participated in the Douglas and Roblin Bull Test Stations, where they had many high gainers. They were founding members of Hi Weigh Charolais Breeders and Westman Charolais Breeders. These groups had bull and female sales each year.

Their herd was promoted at Agribition at Regina, Ag. Ex at Brandon, Heart of Canada Shows, World Federation at Calgary and many local fairs throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Stan has served on both the Manitoba Charolais board ad the Canadian Charolais board. He served on three-year term on the CCA board, during which time; he sat on the Breed Improvement committee. He also served two three-year terms on the Manitoba board, acting as President during this time.

Stan Carol have been kept busy with other activities. They spend their winters in Victoria, B.C. and are avid sports fans who participate in curling and golfing. Over they years, Stan was active in community affairs, being a UGG director for several years and being on local community clubs such as the Russell Elks and the Pelly Trail School Board (President). Carol is a member of the Royal Purple and was active as leader of the local 4-H sewing club and Inglis Catering club.

Both have been strong supporters of the Charolais breed and of the Junior Charolais program. We believe that they are deserving of a nomination to the Charolais Honour Roll.
